20 July 2011 - 'Enchantment'
On holiday in Spain I read a book recommended by Mike Breen called Enchantment by Guy Kawasaki.
One reviewer describes Enchantment: "{Enchantment is} a feeling you want every person to have towards your cause, business or organisation. How do businesses like Apple, Zappos and Virgin America create the feeling of enchantment in their customers' minds? Guy Kawasaki, author, co-founder of Alltop and former chief evangelist at Apple, can tell you how. In his new book, Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions, Kawasaki explains how any business or organisation can enchant like the most powerful and engaging brands in the world. He argues that in business and personal interactions, your goal is not merely to get what you want, but to bring about a voluntary, enduring and delightful change in others."
I loved the book because it is so practical and helpful; he talks about the likeability factor, how to relate to those around us and we all need that! The book will make you laugh out loud and cry (on the same page!) and it’s especially great for anyone with a cause they believe in.
Now I am back from holiday but still travelling. Last week I was back in Stoke. A few ROC projects are being discussed. Then this week I went to Exeter and Truro to meet Councils, Police, Fire Service, churches and others to plan the launch of ROC Devon and Cornwall on October 20th.
Can’t wait for our new staff to join us! Paul Wilson, Graham and Jan Simmons are all starting in August. All I need to do now is put all the principals in Guy’s book into practise!
